Scientists show off plastic muscles

It looks like a greased splotch of sticky plastic — but researchers say that under the right conditions, acrylic material can be used as an artificial muscle more responsive than the real thing. In fact, prestrained plastic muscles could set a new standard, opening the way for innovations ranging from robotic butterflies to next-generation artificial hearts.
